Background
Northumbria University is one of the largest universities in the country offering over 500 study programmes to more than 24,000 students. The university operates across two campuses; its main site is located in Newcastle city centre and it has a smaller satellite campus at Coach Lane, on the outskirts of the city.
The Times Good University Guide 2006 described Northumbria as the ‘Leading New University’.

Research / teaching ratings
No subject taught at Northumbria, assessed to date, has been awarded fewer than 20 out of the maximum of 24 points by the Quality Assurance Agency.
Northumbria University has achieved national and international recognition for the quality of its research in many fields.
There are a number of research institutes and centres at the university conducting research into their particular field of interest. These include the Advanced Materials Research Institute, the Institute for Image Data Research, The Centre for Industrial Design, The Centre for Rapid Product Development and the Disaster and Development Centre.
Industry / business links
The university carries out collaborative research with the North East business community and offers consultancy services and specialist training courses through its e-business centre, Commercial Enterprises Ltd, Knowledge House, the One Stop Shop and the University itself.
Conference and corporate hospitality facilities are also available at the university.
Professional development and training is available across a wide range of disciplines. This includes full and part time degrees, continuing professional development programmes, certificates and NVQs.
