Regional Benefits

Low cost of living

Tyne and Wear enjoys a very high standard of living with lower housing and living costs, allowing more disposable income which is an increasingly important factor in recruiting and retaining staff.

In recent years the North East of England, of which Tyne and Wear is the heart, has consistently been ranked among the two highest-rated regions in the Quality of Life index.

Ideal homes

Tyne and Wear offers luxury quayside apartments, city centre living, large detached family homes, country cottages and coastal locations, all at comparatively low cost.

The housing market is buoyant and prices are following the national upward trend, but remain competitively priced compared to other UK regions.

Schools

With over 500 public and private schools, and some of the highest levels of investment in the UK, Tyne and Wear's schools offer their students an excellent start in life.

Universities committed to delivering a knowledge based economy

Tyne and Wear has three large universities – Newcastle, Northumbria and Sunderland resulting in a good local supply of highly skilled graduates. Working with the Regional Development Agency, One NorthEast, the universities have made graduate retention a major strategic goal. More students than ever before are now attending these universities and a rising number are joining and remaining within the local workforce.

Tyne and Wear has been propelled into the world arena as a culture and leisure hot spot. The region offers a fantastic array of art galleries, museums, theatres, shops, bars and restaurants appealing to visitors and residents alike.
