Investment Package For Scholle
A North East manufacturer is investing in new premises after 70 years at its current home.
Packaging company Scholle Europe Ltd, which is based on Team Valley, will move to state-of-the-art premises at Follingsby Park in Gateshead this autumn as it looks for further growth.
The move has been supported by Tyne and Wear Development Company. DTZ acted on behalf of the landlord, REIT Asset Management.
Scholle has a workforce of 65 and is a leading supplier of liquid packaging to food, beverage and industrial customers. It produces around 20 million products annually – 40 per cent supplied in the UK and 60 per cent in Europe.
The new 43,000 sq ft building - part of a million pound investment - will comprise production, warehousing and office space. The company believes the improved facilities will increase its potential for future growth and ability to win new business.
Managing director Peter Dixon said: “Our current site is split across three buildings and, although it’s served us well for many years, we need to invest to remain competitive.
“The new building gives us the space and top end facilities we need for future growth. The layout will also help us to achieve greater efficiencies and productivity by cutting the movement of materials across different sites by over 50 per cent daily.
“We were keen to remain in the same area but had been struggling to find anywhere suitable. That’s where Tyne and Wear Development Company has been so helpful. The support we received from them was vital to our investment plans”
Paul Buie from Tyne and Wear Development Company said: “Scholle has a long and successful history in Tyne and Wear going back the best part of a century. We’ve supported them for a number of years and look forward to them achieving greater success on the back of this investment. We’re pleased to have helped them with the investment process, which can be a stressful time for investors.”
Scholle has also received practical support from Gateshead Council and financial support from One NorthEast.
