Grant Is Breath Of Fresh Air For Filtration Firm
A Washington business specialising in the filtration of compressed air and gas is thriving despite the global economic climate thanks to support from Tyne and Wear Development Company.
Walker Filtration is planning to expand its workforce by 26 staff over the next three years as part of a £650,000 project to grow the business by investing in advanced production line machinery and improving product development and marketing techniques.
Tyne and Wear Development Company has been working with Walker Filtration on the project for several months and was able to offer a raft of support to turn the plans into reality. This included a referral to regional development agency One North East, which is backing the plan with a £150,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI).
Walker Filtration is a family-owned business established in 1983. It has grown to employ 150 people worldwide and manufactures around 500 filtration products used to dry and filter compresses air and gas.
Company director and general manager Lianne Walker said: “This business expansion will help our company meet the aggressive growth targets we have set ourselves for the next three years.
“We are a global company with divisions, distributors and customers in America, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the Far and Middle East. Our determination and drive for the business to succeed and grow is very much behind this expansion.”
Tyne and Wear Development Company also introduced the company to Business Link, which has been able to provide additional support.
Alma Harrison, from Tyne and Wear Development Company, said: “This investment paves the way for Walker Filtration to extend its share of the market and create jobs on Tyneside. It’s excellent news for manufacturing in the region.
“We’ve been working with the company since the middle of last year. We were able to introduce them to One North East and other sources of funding around the region.”
One North East’s director of business and industry, Ian Williams, said: “Walker Filtration is an ambitious company that has performed exceptionally well since it was formed in the early 1980s. I am delighted that One North East has been able to contribute and help secure the continued success of the business.”
