Scholle Move Wrapped Up

A North East manufacturer has started 2009 by moving into a new state-of-the-art factory in Gateshead as it gears up to win new business.

The Mayor of Gateshead, Cllr Maureen Chaplin, has opened Scholle’s new 43,000 sq ft factory at Follingsby Park after Tyne and Wear Development Company made the investment possible.

Scholle, a manufacturer of liquid packaging solutions, has relocated from its previous facility on Team Valley, shifting production from a multi to single building site and investing in cutting-edge production technology to improve performance and capacity.

The firm is anticipating winning new business from customers in the food, beverage and industrial sectors thanks to its improved facilities.

Tyne and Wear Development Company has a long standing relationship with Scholle and led a local investment team that worked with the company to help it remain in Gateshead and retain its 60 strong workforce.

Peter Dixon, Scholle’s operations manager, said: “The new factory and technology is state-of-the-art. It allows us to meet the highest industry production standards and ensures we will be highly competitive in attracting new business.”

Conré Oostrom, managing director for Scholle, added: “Gateshead has been a significant location within our European portfolio of operations for many years and we were very keen to remain here to continue to build on our experienced and well trained work force.

“Thanks to the support of Tyne and Wear Development Company that’s been possible. Our previous factory was no longer meeting our and our customers’ needs, but they helped us find the perfect base.”

Paul Buie, manager of Tyne and Wear Development Company, said: “It’s encouraging to see a Tyneside manufacturer that’s investing for the future and looking to grow. Remaining in Gateshead and retaining the workforce was a key priority for Scholle and we’re happy to have helped them to do this.”

Cllr Maureen Chaplin said: “Scholle is a big international company and we’re delighted that it is able to continue its long-standing relationship with Gateshead. This is excellent news for the borough and the local workforce who play such a big part in the company’s success.”
