Key Place for Business
Tyne and Wear is one of Europe’s leading destinations for international investment and boasts a first class infrastructure for business.
Economically, the region has changed significantly in recent years thanks to major regeneration and investment. New, dynamic sectors such as software, new and renewable energies and professional services now stand alongside traditional industries as key sectors.
Investors enjoy some of the best business sites in Europe at highly competitive rates – from international business parks with cutting edge ICT communications to flexible incubator units for young and growing businesses.
Companies locating here have access to a skilled and productive labour force, with competitive costs and low turnover rates that are the envy of many other regions. They can also take advantage of the comprehensive business support network that exists in the region.
Tyne and Wear’s three universities – Newcastle, Northumbria and Sunderland – work closely with businesses to develop skilled graduates to meet the needs of employers.
The transport infrastructure offers short journey-to-work times and easy access to other areas of the UK and overseas markets. The two main road links (A1 and A19) provide quick and direct links to Leeds, Edinburgh and London. Newcastle International Airport is one of the busiest regional airports in the country. There are up to 100 flights per day departing from the airport including 12 to London that take less than one hour.
Rail travellers can make regular journeys to London and the UK’s other major cities via the East Coast Mainline. The region also has five major ports, with the Port of Tyne the main point of entry for Scandinavian trade.
